Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Urinary SO in Gel Canned Cat Food has a pate texture.

my cat sammy is 1 and recently was at the vet for a uti. Im in the process of switching him from fancy feast whitefish over to c/d that has a whitefish flavor. Right now I am mixing FF with the C/D both whitefish. What is the flavor of the royal canin "gel" wet food and same with the dry food

This product contains Pork By-Products, Chicken Liver, Chicken and Chicken By-Products as the proteins.

My cat is presently on Veterinary Diet Urinary SO but he also eats about a TB of this daily to take medicine, making the can last 5-6 days. No stomach upset, smells fine, but is it too long to store in a 35 degree fridge?

Opened cans should be stored in the refrigerator, at temperatures between 40 to 45° Fahrenheit, for a maximum of 5 to 7 days. Any cat or dog food remaining after that time should be discarded.

This feeding chart is a general recommendation. It can be adjusted for your specific pet when also taking into account their age, activity level, etc. If you are uncertain of the amount, you can always consult with your veterinarian.

effective but changed formula

We've used this food for more than five years, and it has kept our tabby from getting stones or other very painful urinary issues, which were happening every few months. So that's a win. Before they changed it I would have given it 5 stars for effectiveness. Cons: It was always pricy and is now ridiculous. And it seems they changed the formula a few months ago, around the time they changed to a different can for the 5.1-oz "loaf". The new formula seems to have fewer calories -- both our cats beg for food outside mealtime now, sometimes immediately after eating. They don't leave any food in the bowl, but they've both lost weight (like 1-2 pounds) without any changes at all in diet or activity. The vet says they're both too skinny now. So now I'm supplementing this very expensive food with treats and 3-oz cans from other brands, i.e. spending even more to keep them well. I'm looking for an alternative.

Good stuff

I have 2 15 yr old cats. One needs the UR but both get it. Two yrs ago my boy wouldn't eat this. I had some left and recently gave it to them. I mash it and add a little water. Also give small amounts often to keep it fresh. They do great, play and run. Rarely throw up but it did happen on my white bedspread and this food did not stain at all. Disappointed that Royal Canin changed to smaller cans and bigger price but that's how it is.

It is PATE!!!

I was reluctant to order Royal Canin's Vet Diet Adult Urinary SO, as the can stated it was a "Loaf in sauce". I wanted a pate, not a loaf. (Originally, I ordered the Royal Canin morsels version instead & that was a HUGE mistake. It slopped all over when opening and our Fred only lapped up the juice and left the morsels). We donated that box. We now have a WINNER with the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Adult Urinary SO Loaf in sauce. Our cat, as well ourselves, LOVE this canned food. We will continue to buy in the future and yes, IT IS PATE!

New formula or something

Pet owners who have purchased this in the past: heads up. Something about the formula has changed. My cat still eats this food, but the food is way softer now and he was a little weirded out by it at first. Some of the cans he won't even touch. Also, he's hungrier now than he was before, so I have a feeling Royal Canin is adding less meat. I will be looking into switching other brands.

Something changed

My cat has been eating this for 2 years. I feed him a small amount every day with his Cosequin sprinkled on it. He is always excited to get it. Recently I started on a new case that chewy shipped and he was excited when I brought the food to him, took one sniff and walked away. I thought maybe just a bad day so 4 more days in a row I gave it to him same reaction. Tried another can in case there was just something wrong with that 1 but same reaction. I called chewy but they said nothing changed that they know of but it sure seems like it to me.

Byproducts and wheat gluten

I cannot believe I blindly trusted this food since it was prescribed. The ingredients are horrible. There are multiple byproducts listed as well as wheat gluten. For prescription food and expensive food, I would expect quality ingredients to be in the product. I'm ashamed that I fed this to my cat. Do better.

missy nose up

my girl missy will not eat this food and stopped eating all wet food that had this food mixed in with it so I had to go back to her old food and she took her time but she is now eating again

Price is out of control

Over $70 for a case of cat food? $70? It's insulting. And for a food our cats supposedly have to have, so they think they have us over a barrel. And really, it's not even that great quality. So I'm going to feed high quality, just kinda expensive food and mix in water (no dry food!). I just can't, and won't, pay that much for a case of food. I am literally spending more on cat food each month than on my own food.

This is the only food my cat can eat

My cat as struggled with urinary crystals. We tried Hills dry and then eventually only wet, and he still have reoccurrences. My vet suggested we switch to Royal Canin and I'm glad he did. My cat hasn't had a flare up since. This is the only food he can eat or else he will get sick. When my cat first went on the food it was around $50 a case and the cans were larger. Now it's over $70 and they've reduced the size of the cans! There's nothing I can do but pay that price or risk hurting my cat. Royal Canin needs to reconsider what they're doing to consumers!

my cat loves it

buddy had to go on the urinary so about almost 2 years ago and he loves both the wet and the dry food only thing is i sometimes it comes in pate which my cat loves because he was brought up on that kind of wet food but sometimes it comes in chunks in gravy then i have to mash it up so he will eat it all but it says the same thing on the cans loaf in sauce so what you get is 50/50.no big deal but the pate works much better for my cat and maybe other cats would be the opposite.either way it's worth it.
